SHE Aesthetics Medspa Introduces Aviclear!

Earlier this year, Cutera’s AviClear laser became the first laser to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of mild, moderate, and severe acne. The service is being considered a game-changer among skincare professionals since this laser targets your sebaceous glands to change the makeup of your skin (in a similar way to Accutane) instead of only treating surface level breakouts. Starting April 2023, we now offer AviClear SHE Aesthetics! Read more about Aviclear below!

What is AviClear Treatment?

AviClear is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared laser treatment for mild to severe acne. It targets the sebaceous glands, which are the source of the skin’s natural, sebum oils that are often significant contributors to acne breakouts. The innovative AviClear laser wavelength allows for high precision in treatment that reduces oil production without damaging or overly drying skin. It reduces sebum oil production by targeting and suppressing the overproduction of oil in the sebaceous glands. Over three monthly applications, the AviClear laser acne treatment clears up the skin quickly, but the results are longer lasting than almost any other treatment for acne. Plus, it can be used for all skin types and all forms of acne.

Who Is a Candidate for AviClear Acne Treatment?

There are many acne treatment options on the market, but most of them involve subjecting your skin to chemicals or taking medications that can have serious side effects. AviClear is a long-term solution for acne that is completely free of drugs and chemicals. AviClear is a safe and effective solution for all types of acne, including cystic acne and other severe, treatment-resistant types of acne. In addition to helping clear up acne breakouts, AviClear acne treatment also improves the appearance of acne scars.

While this treatment option is safe and effective for most people, it may not be the right option for pregnant women, those with rosacea, and people who currently have or have previously been diagnosed with skin cancer.

How Does AviClear Acne Treatment Work?

Duing an initial visit at SHE Aesthetics, a our estheticians will examine your skin, discuss your acne history, and help you determine whether AviClear is the right acne treatment for you. If you decide to move forward with AviClear laser treatment, your estheticians will schedule a good time for you to visit for the first in a series of three treatment appointments. The process reduces oil production significantly, meaning that pores are less likely to be clogged. Over time, this leads to fewer, less frequent, and less severe acne breakouts.

At the AviClear acne treatment visit, your esthetician cleanses your skin carefully to minimize the risk of side effects and infection. Once the skin is cleaned, your esthetician will apply the laser directly to your skin in the areas where your acne breakouts have occurred. During the treatment, you may feel some warmth and a snapping or tingling sensation, but the laser has skin-cooling technology that minimizes any discomfort. That means local anesthesia or numbing medications aren’t necessary. The entire procedure usually takes about thirty minutes. Almost all side effects of this acne treatment clear up within a few hours, meaning you can go back to your regular routine right away.

Directly following treatment, your esthetician will provide you with a skincare and treatment plan to promote healing and recovery. If you follow these instructions, you should see little to no negative side effects of the treatment. In the days and weeks following the procedure, patients should see an improvement in the number and severity of acne blemishes as well as generally healthier-looking skin with an even tone and texture. In most cases, patients require a series of three laser treatments spaced about a month apart. Even though three treatments are usually recommended, up to 90% of patients saw significant improvement after the first laser treatment in the series.

After the AviClear acne procedure, you can keep using any oral or topical acne medications unless specifically told to forego these treatments by your esthetician. Skin can be very sensitive to sunlight after laser treatments, so to preserve your results and promote healing after your AviClear laser procedure, it’s important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. You should also avoid heavy skincare products that can clog pores

Are There Side Effects to AviClear Acne Treatment?

Following many laser treatments for acne, patients may experience significant discomfort and take several days or weeks to fully heal. AviClear acne is different in that the treatment offers maximum efficacy with minimal discomfort and downtime. You can restart your daily routine right away after your laser treatments, but you may experience some mild side effects. Most commonly, patients notice reddening at the treatment site immediately following your procedure. This typically clears up within a few hours or days.

One relatively common side effect is a flare-up in acne. This can be frustrating since this procedure is performed to improve acne breakouts, but the flare-up is usually indicative that the laser treatment has worked. Once the breakout clears, you should see long-lasting clearer skin.

How Long Will Results from AviClear Acne Treatment Last?

Each person will react differently to AviClear acne treatments, and your dermatologist will partner with you to create a unique treatment and retreatment plan. In most cases, estheticians recommend a series of three monthly laser procedures followed by annual retreatments. However, some patients reported having clear skin or very minimal breakouts for as long as two years.
